Reflect On Those Pivotal Moments That Catalyze Change

Inspiration surrounds us. And sometimes you can find it in a tweet. We recently came across a post by Sean Marcano, Production Designer and Founder of Marked Up.

“I can really name the pivotal moments I was inspired to make drastic change. Moments that pushed me and projected me forward. What are some of yours?”

Inspired by our principle, Joy In Every Moment, we wanted to hear more about his story and those pivotal moments that inspired him to make drastic change in his life. Here’s a few Uncommon Sense truths that he applies to life and business, and he encourages you to do the same.

Keep your toys, they might be worth something someday.

Coming in at number one was receiving a little grey laptop. It was with that grey laptop that I learned how to access the internet to play video games and network at a young age. It was with that grey laptop that I began my career.

In dark there is light.

Experiencing my first depressive episode. I look back now and it taught me a lot. I learned the ability to empathize with someone else’s emotions because I knew what it felt like to be alone and on the side of not feeling understood.

Make a friend or two. You might make a dollar.

Going away to college and graduating was an opportunity and a major feat. The influence that it made on my development as a person, friend, partner, businessman and human was drastic. I learned life lessons and built up the network of people that would eventually be the foundation of my many circles and clients.

Chip and chip away.

Getting to play college football taught me how chipping away at a goal and being consistent could lead me to success. Long strides can be taken, but there are always 24 hours in a day. And no matter how many big leaps you may take in a day, there will always be another day. Another day to tackle new challenges. Another day to make big strides and to be consistent in the pursuit of your goals.

Seize the day, tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Experiencing a near fatal car crash. It was almost morning just as the sun was coming up, and it was frigid and freezing in the winter. I was on a highway and my car lost control. It spun out and flipped into a ditch. This near fatal accident taught me that, at any moment, life can be taken and that I should take advantage of every day and not take it for granted. It shifted and projected my life on a more ambitious road.
