Bulldog Design: Lotus Foods

When we embarked on a transformational identity and packaging project for Lotus Foods’ rice offerings, we began an exciting journey that guided them through a significant brand evolution. Today, Lotus Foods boasts 11 product awards in a range of categories and has increased sales of Forbidden Rice by 122 percent. For this project, we set out on a highly collaborative exploration to express the passion and purpose that sit at the heart of Lotus Foods, helping to develop a meaningful plan to evolve the brand for a bright future.

In order to allow Lotus to begin a new, spirited conversation with consumers, we sought to build on equity, enhance and modernize the Lotus look and feel, create a stand-out statement, and produce a simple and effective packaging information system. This would enable product differentiation on-shelf and a clear understanding of product benefits. The resulting visual articulation features an elegant, connective treatment that is rich with storytelling, and can evolve as new products are added to the fold. The design language of the brand refresh makes the passion behind these products and the difference being made in the world shine through to consumers effectively and emotionally. We landed on an inspiring idea that speaks to consumers that purchase the rice, the families that produce the rice, and Lotus Foods stakeholders across the world: Rice is Life.

With new SRI rice innovation technologies that create more rice for people and more water for the planet, as well as focusing on fair-trade, organic, and heirloom products, Lotus Foods is actively helping to make the world a healthier, better place.
